Machine Learning Engineer Project Intern (Security-Data) – 2026 Start (BS/MS) | ByteDance
The Tone:
This is a project internship at ByteDance, a company founded in 2012 with a mission to inspire creativity and enrich life through products like TikTok, Lemon8, CapCut, and Pico. The security engineering team aims to build robust security services, platforms, and technologies, supporting various teams to protect users, products, and infrastructure. This role is crucial for enhancing the intelligent capabilities of large models within the security domain, contributing directly to the company’s key security initiatives. Interns will gain first-hand exposure to real-world security strategies and participate in the full lifecycle of security products.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Model Improvement: Improve the intelligent upper limit of large models specifically within the security domain.
• Model Application: Train vertical large models and apply them to diverse security tasks, including code analysis, vulnerability detection, and threat intelligence.
• Technology Innovation: Deeply apply and innovate large model technology stacks, encompassing data synthesis, model post-training, model acceleration, and distillation, to explore technical boundaries.
• Project Engagement: Engage in impactful short-term projects that provide professional real-world experience and practical skills through on-the-job learning.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Undergraduate or Postgraduate student currently pursuing a degree or master’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Security, Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, or other STEM disciplines.
• Experience: Proven experience with C++, Java, or Python with excellent coding ability, and familiarity with at least one common machine learning or deep learning platform. Demonstrated experience in big data processing, proficient in using Hive, SQL, Spark, and Flink for analysis and mining. Must be able to commit to at least a 3-month internship period.
• Skills: Proven skills with common algorithms and theories of data mining, including data denoising, statistical learning, classification and clustering, anomaly detection, and graph learning algorithms.
• Bonus: Ability to implement machine learning algorithms, with relevant practical experience being preferred. Enthusiastic about challenging tasks, possessing self-drive, fast learning ability, good communication skills, and innovative thinking.
