Software Engineer Intern Fall 2026/Winter 2027 | Skydio

The Tone:
This is an internship at Skydio, located in-person. Skydio is the leading US drone company and a world leader in autonomous flight, which is crucial for the future of drones and aerial mobility. The company develops best-in-class hardware and software, leveraging artificial intelligence to create autonomous drones. This role matters because it contributes to building and scaling the cloud systems that enable Skydio’s drones to become critical infrastructure, solving real-world problems faster, safer, and more efficiently for diverse users, from inspectors to first responders.

What You’ll Actually Do
Scale Solutions: Tackle scalability and deployment challenges in both cloud and air-gapped environments for Skydio’s systems.
Develop Infrastructure: Design and improve core cloud infrastructure and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) systems.
Enhance Developer Tools: Enhance telemetry, observability, and developer productivity tools to streamline software delivery.
Build Feature Management: Construct a system that allows product teams to manage feature flags and rollouts of new functionality to customers.
Optimize Performance: Profile server and backend system workloads, then optimize their performance or resource utilization.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A junior, senior, or master’s student with solid computer science fundamentals.
• Experience: Meaningful project and/or internship experience developing complex web applications or backend data systems.
• Skills: Proficiency with Python, Golang, and/or Javascript/Typescript. Familiarity with REST-ful APIs, Linux operating system configuration, build tools, relational databases (e.g., Postgres, MySQL), and caching systems (Redis, Memcached).
• Bonus: Understanding of cloud service offerings (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure), deployment techniques, and configuration management. A highly curious and resourceful candidate, capable of using tools and AI to accelerate their understanding and productivity.
