What You’ll Actually Do
• Newsroom Support: Assist editors and management in all aspects of newsroom operations.
• Content Gathering: Conduct interviews with newsmakers to gather essential information for stories.
• Social Engagement: Monitor and actively contribute to social media platforms.
• Story Development: Identify potential news stories and pitch ideas to editors and management.
• Operational Flexibility: Work various shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overnights, as part of a 24/7 news operation.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-level requiring strong communication skills, critical thinking, immersion in local news, and an understanding of ethics and news standards.
• Experience: No specific years required, but a radio production and journalism background is strongly preferred.
• Skills: Ability to multi-task under deadline pressure; managing and meeting strict deadlines; familiarity with leveraging social media platforms; knowledge of current events and industry trends.
• Bonus: Creativity; curiosity; strong social media skills; working knowledge of general office computer software, newsroom software, and audio/video editing systems.
