The Tone:
This is an internship at PlusAI, located in Silicon Valley (with operations in the United States and Europe). PlusAI is a Physical AI company that pioneers AI-based virtual driver software for factory-built autonomous trucks. This role contributes to the core mission of accelerating the deployment of next-generation autonomous trucks by improving generic-object detection for their autonomous systems. The work will make a significant impact on the future of autonomy.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Location: In-person, Silicon Valley, United States
• Pay: $19–$65 hourly
• Team: Localization & Mapping team
• Mission: This person will build and validate a closed-loop “long-tail data engine” to improve generic-object detection on a curated long-tail benchmark.
• Tech Stack: Python, C++

What You’ll Actually Do
• Build: Build a prototype of a closed-loop “long-tail data engine” using a combination of simulation tools, automated data mining, and foundation models.
• Validate: Validate the closed-loop “long-tail data engine” to ensure improvements in generic-object detection.
• Establish: Establish a measurable long-tail evaluation benchmark using existing logs to guide project development.
• Improve: Improve generic-object detection capabilities on a curated long-tail benchmark, directly contributing to autonomous truck safety and performance.
• Develop: Develop and integrate simulation tools, automated data mining techniques, and foundation models to construct the data engine prototype.
