Job Description
Systems Engineering Intern | PlusAI
The Tone:
This is an internship at PlusAI, a company pioneering AI-based virtual driver software for factory-built autonomous trucks. Headquartered in Silicon Valley with operations across the United States and Europe, PlusAI was recognized by Fast Company as one of the World’s Most Innovative Companies. This role is essential for accelerating the deployment of next-generation autonomous trucks by supporting the Systems and Safety team in developing agentic tooling for Systems Engineering (SE) applications, encompassing systems level analysis, requirements derivation, and test plan management. The work here will have a significant impact on driving the future of autonomy.
The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Location: In-person, Santa Clara, CA
• Pay: $19–$65 hourly
• Team: Systems and Safety team responsible for supporting SE tooling development.
• Mission: This intern will develop AI chatbot-like interfaces and agentic coding prototypes to automate high-impact Systems Engineering processes.
• Tech Stack: Python, C++, Linux based tools
What You’ll Actually Do
• Tool Development Support: Actively support the development of Systems Engineering (SE) tools, which will be utilized for both internal company processes and external applications.
• Chatbot Interface Creation: Develop AI chatbot-like interfaces designed to facilitate the general interrogation and exploration of various company databases.
• Agentic Prototype Automation: Create an agentic coding prototype, potentially involving a multi-agent system or a specialized Large Language Model (LLM) tool, with the goal of rebuilding and automating a high-impact Systems Engineering process step, such as requirements traceability, automated test case generation directly from requirements, or validation documentation procedures.
• Process Documentation & Specification: Thoroughly document the details of the proposed ‘rebuilt’ Systems Engineering process and concurrently provide a comprehensive technical specification that outlines how the developed agentic prototype can be scaled for broader application.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Actively enrolled in a Master’s degree program in Systems Engineering or a related Engineering field.
• Experience: Previous experience or research specifically related to Autonomous Driving, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), or Robotics.
• Skills: Proficiency in programming languages including Python and C++; familiarity with Linux-based tools is preferred but not strictly necessary; strong organizational abilities and effective communication skills are also required.
• Bonus: Working knowledge of automotive safety standards such as ISO 26262 and SOTIF, experience with vehicle level control software (e.g., for powertrain, battery, chassis), and knowledge of vehicle communication networks and protocols.
