Fall 2026 – Safety Department Student Internship | Tampa Electric
The Tone:
This is an internship at Tampa Electric Company, located in Brandon, Florida. Tampa Electric is an energy company that provides essential leadership and safety support to its team members and contractors across its operations. This role is a vital opportunity for college students to apply their academic knowledge in a professional setting, contribute to meaningful safety initiatives, and gain valuable real-world experience from day one.
The TL;DR
• Role: Internship / Volunteer
• Type: Mon – Fri, 20-40 hours, varies on location and/or role
• Location: In-person, Brandon, FL
• Team: Safety Department, supporting TECO team members and contractors
• Mission: To advance safety initiatives, manage occupational safety and health efforts, and advocate for a behaviorally based safety culture.
• Tech Stack: MS Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams)
What You’ll Actually Do
• Data Analysis: Gather and analyze safety and health data for various projects.
• Hazard Participation: Participate in various hazard reviews to identify and assess risks.
• Process Improvement: Document current processes while identifying potential improvements.
• Project Management: Track project status and provide support for project completion.
• Engagement Activities: Join in various outreach and engagement activities within the department.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Engineering or Science from an accredited university, at the Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or Graduate level.
• Experience: Academic background in a related discipline, demonstrating an eagerness to learn and make an impact in a professional setting.
• Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
• Bonus: Enrollment in a university’s co-op program (proof of enrollment required); basic understanding of safety, health, environmental, or emergency management; and/or engineering principles.
