Intern – City Secretary’s Office | City of McKinney

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship
• Location: In-person, McKinney, TX
• Team: City Secretary’s Office, reporting to the Division Manager or designee.
• Mission: To perform a full range of duties related to departmental functions and work on projects that align with the intern’s interests and career aspirations, contributing to the City of McKinney.
• Tech Stack: Word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, and database programs.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Researching policies: Research local, state, and national programs and policies to maintain departmental standards.
• Reviewing permits: Assist with the review of laws and procedures for Gaming Machine Permits.
• Auditing public meeting procedures: Conduct departmental audits of agenda item creation and posting procedures for City Council and Boards & Commissions meetings.
• Developing and presenting a final project: Implement and present a final project that contributes to the City of McKinney and academic/professional development.
• Providing departmental support: Perform a full range of duties related to the functions of the City Secretary’s Office.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program at an accredited college.
• Experience: No specific experience length required; demonstrated acceptable proficiency levels in relevant areas may be a substitute.
• Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail and high level of accuracy, ability to plan and organize work, ability to handle confidential and sensitive information, and ability to operate office equipment and computer programs.
• Bonus: Resourceful with a natural drive to find answers, ability to work with little supervision, and a commitment to continuous learning and development.
