Safety Specialist 1 – Kiewit Energy | Kiewit

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Kiewit, located on one of their project sites with required travel and relocation. • Team: Reports to Project Safety Manager
• Mission: Successfully implement and support the Site Specific Safety Plan in the field while ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Word, Excel

What You’ll Actually Do
• Develop and Communicate: Assist in the development, review, updating, and communication of the Site Specific Safety Plan (SSSP) to all project personnel and subcontractors.
• Engage Craft: Collaborate daily with craft employees in the field to foster buy-in for the safety program and support craft ownership of safety initiatives.
• Enforce Standards: Exercise Stop Work Responsibility to ensure strict adherence to company policies, regulations, work plans, and detailed work plans.
• Proactive Problem Solving: Plan, prioritize, and problem-solve with operations in the field daily based on leading indicator trends and upcoming work activities.
• Support Operations: Assist with maintaining project files in compliance with OSHA/MSHA regulations, conduct incident investigations, and provide safety training.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-level professional with knowledge of construction safety and current Federal and OSHA requirements.
• Experience: 0-2 years of construction safety experience, First Aid CPR certification, and OSHA 30 certification.
• Skills: Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel, strong organizational and time management skills, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Bonus: A degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Safety, or a related field of study is preferred, as is certification as a Safety Professional or Emergency Medical Technician.
