Data Analyst (Power Control Center), Emerging Talent Intern | Metropolitan Transportation Authority

The Tone:
This is an internship at Metropolitan Transportation Authority, located in New York, NY, specifically within the Department of Subways. The MTA operates the essential public transportation network for New York City, with the Department of Subways managing critical operations including the Power Control Center. This role supports the Power Control Center (PCC), which manages all power-related operations for New York City Transit’s subway system, including traction power, equipment outages, and emergency conditions. The intern will play a critical role in improving how power-related issues are tracked, communicated, and documented, thereby directly contributing to safe, reliable, and efficient subway operations across NYCT.

What You’ll Actually Do
Dashboard Consolidation: Assist in reviewing existing Power BI reports, identifying overlapping elements, and combining multiple reports into one centralized, dynamic dashboard featuring clear visuals, dynamic filtering, and consistent reporting logic connected to various databases.
Data Validation: Help validate the accuracy of data across different databases, existing reports, and original source systems to ensure reliability of information.
AI Insights Development & Testing: Support the AI Insights proof-of-concept project by helping organize use cases, data sources, sample questions, and expected outputs. Additionally, assist in testing AI Insights functionality and documenting findings, limitations, and opportunities for improvement.
SharePoint Optimization: Review the existing SharePoint site and recommend improvements to its folder structure, naming conventions, document libraries, and overall organization to enhance document access and team collaboration.
Documentation & Records Management: Create user-friendly documentation, process guides, and standard operating procedures for new dashboards, SharePoint usage, and AI Insights workflows. Also, support basic records management tasks such as filing, organizing, and maintaining departmental documents.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently matriculated in a graduate program in Computer Science or a related field, with a minimum GPA of 2.8.
• Experience: No specific years required. All applicants must be authorized to work in the United States at the time of application.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills, ability to work under pressure, effective task prioritization, keen eye for detail, and capable of working independently as a team player.
