Engineering – Civil Engineering Internship | KPFF Consulting Engineers
The Tone:
This is an internship at KPFF Consulting Engineers, located in Los Angeles, CA. KPFF provides structural and civil engineering services to a diverse client base, including architects, government agencies, developers, and contractors. This role is crucial as it integrates students into project teams, allowing them to directly contribute to civil engineering design projects, site development, transportation, and major utility initiatives. Interns gain hands-on experience, working alongside senior-level mentors who support their professional growth and development within a collaborative environment.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Project Design: Contribute to civil engineering design projects, including site plans, grading, drainage, and utility designs, under the supervision of senior engineers.
• Document Preparation: Create calculations, drawings, and specifications using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, and support technical reports and construction documents.
• Field Investigation: Conduct site visits to collect data, monitor project progress, and ensure compliance with design standards and safety protocols.
• Project Support: Help maintain project schedules and documentation, and assist with permits and regulatory compliance efforts.
• Environmental Compliance: Prepare and modify Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans and conduct site inspections in accordance with California Water Resources Control Board permits.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Student pursuing a bachelor’s degree (Junior or higher) or a master’s degree in civil engineering.
• Skills:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to visit job sites to inspect existing conditions and document potential scope of work.
• Ability to learn and apply established engineering principles to solve problems and/or overcome obstacles using sound judgment and independent decision-making.
