Social Media & Communications Internship | Burlington Electric Department
The Tone:
This is an unpaid internship at Burlington Electric Department, located in Burlington, VT. The primary focus of this role is to gain first-hand knowledge of airport social media efforts, policies, and communication strategies for the broader community regarding airport-related items such as flight information, legislative efforts, and marketing planning. This internship plays a key part in maintaining email marketing campaigns and assisting with the execution of community-based events, contributing to meaningful public engagement.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Create social media posts: Develop and publish engaging content across platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn to communicate airport-related items and updates.
• Design graphics: Produce visual content for social media posts and other communication materials.
• Manage email marketing communications: Craft and send email campaigns to maintain outreach with the community.
• Oversee the social media calendar: Maintain and schedule content efficiently within a complex, fast-moving operational environment.
• Execute community-based events: Assist in planning and implementing public events designed to drive meaningful engagement.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Student pursuing academic credit for an internship, with an interest in communications, marketing, and public relations.
• Experience: Demonstrated experience in maintaining a social media content calendar, managing email marketing campaigns, and contributing to media relations.
• Skills: Strong written communication skills for crafting clear and impactful messages; Ability to create graphic designs for digital content; Foundational knowledge of airport operations and the unique communications challenges they present; Capacity to collaborate effectively with staff and media buyers; Active commitment to City diversity, equity, and cultural competency efforts.
• Bonus: Experience in event planning skills preferred but not required.
