Intern Athletic Trainer | The University of Georgia

The Tone:
This is a temporary internship at The University of Georgia, located in Athens, GA. This role supports the University of Georgia Athletic Association by coordinating athletic training services for student-athletes under the medical direction of the head team physician, ensuring comprehensive care and well-being.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Injury Management: Serve as an athletic trainer for specified teams, providing initial assessment, treatment, physician referral, casting, splinting, and wound care.
• Administrative Coordination: Maintain confidential medical records, collect and apply Fusionetics data, coordinate concussion testing protocols, and collaborate for athletic event medical coverage.
• Rehabilitation: Develop and implement structured rehabilitation programs under physician supervision, coordinate physician re-checks, and utilize therapeutic modalities including aquatic rehabilitation.
• Injury Prevention: Assist in planning and coordinating pre-participation physical examinations, implement preventative maintenance rehabilitation programs, and fit protective equipment.
• Emergency Response: Provide emergency care and first aid, assist with emergency plan development, manage emergency equipment, and coordinate with medical personnel.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Technical knowledge in the field of athletic training, typically acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or a professional certificate.
• Experience: This is a 12-month temporary appointment from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027, focused on gaining practical experience in athletic training services.
• Skills: Ability to analyze and interpret professional journals and technical procedures, write reports and business correspondence, effectively present information and respond to questions from health care professionals and patients, and solve practical problems.
