Job Description

About the Role
This is a year-round, engineering-focused internship at Firefly Aerospace, a space and defense technology company enabling our world to launch, land, and operate in space – anywhere, anytime. As an intern, you will support Responsible Engineers through all stages of component and system design, from preliminary concept to manufacturing, testing, and data review, contributing to challenging problems related to launch vehicles and spacecraft.

What You’ll Do
• Develop new innovative design concepts for solving real problems related to our launch vehicle and spacecraft programs
• Use engineering principles and fundamentals to provide novel solutions for technically challenging problems in the Internship focus area of Materials & Process Engineering.
• Gain experience developing novel solutions for challenging problems, which you will be responsible for completing.

You’re a Good Fit If You
• Have strong engineering fundamentals in thermal, structural, and fluid analysis
• Are a current undergraduate or graduate student earning a degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field
• Are a new graduate
• Have a demonstrated drive to deliver on tight schedules, especially when unconventional & creative solutions are necessary
• Have hands-on fabrication experience using common power tools for projects at work/home/school
• Have the ability to work occasional night shifts
• Have the ability to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment, including frequent interactions with technicians, other engineers, and managers
• Have the ability to communicate effectively within a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural group
• Possess high levels of creativity, flexibility, and collaboration
• Are a U.S. citizen, a lawful permanent resident of the U.S., a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Bonus Qualifications
• Have knowledge in Propulsion Engineering across mechanical, fluid, and thermal.
