About the Role
This role is an internship within Service Engineering, focusing on real-time diagnostic support for Tesla’s service network. The team is responsible for developing and improving diagnostic tools and procedures, and providing feedback on field issues to product development teams to improve current and future products. Interns should be passionate about the product, strong critical thinkers, and capable of understanding technical system-level architecture and issues. This is a full-time, onsite internship lasting a minimum of 12 weeks, expected to begin around August 2026 and continue through November/December.

What You’ll Do
• Build capabilities for quickly and accurately diagnosing vehicle issues remotely, owning the entire customer experience from the Tesla App entry point to providing self-service solutions or automating service appointments when a repair is necessary.
• Focus on diagnostic and repair firmware that runs on the vehicle, accelerating the speed and reliability of vehicle side diagnostics for Tesla service centers and third parties.
• Develop and maintain the primary diagnostic and repair platform used by technicians in Tesla Service Centers, independent repair shops, and vehicle owners, aiming to create intuitive, user-friendly tools that streamline the diagnostic and repair process and reduce associated time and complexity.

You’re a Good Fit If You
• Are currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with a graduation date between December 2026 – December 2027.
• Have software development experience.
• Have experience in software testing and automation scripting.
• Have strong proficiency with Python and JavaScript.
• Are comfortable with Linux environments and system administration.
• Possess excellent critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills.
• Have a passion for troubleshooting failures, improving code quality, and optimizing system efficiency, monitoring and observability.

Bonus Qualifications
• Proficiency with C++, Rust, and Go.
• Hands on experience with vehicles or other hardware projects.
• Prior experience in Formula SAE or experience working on personal cars.
