Engineering – Video Intern

About the Role

Join the team at Eagle Eye Networks, a leader in cloud-based video surveillance, to contribute to the pivotal Clip Service initiative. This role is designed for an intern passionate about improving how customers save, manage, and interact with surveillance video beyond standard retention periods. You will be instrumental in building and integrating both backend services and user-facing tools, enabling operators to seamlessly create, search, and view video clips directly from the timeline.

Gain invaluable hands-on experience working with existing video archiving systems, data models, and storage solutions. Your contributions will help extend APIs, support complex video extraction workflows, and enhance playback and search functionality across our web applications, providing a comprehensive understanding of a live production system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and integrating services that support video clip creation, retention, and playback.
  • Work with backend APIs and data models used to manage archived video and clip metadata.
  • Support updates to critical web applications, including the History Browser and Clip Management interfaces.
  • Help implement and test workflows for extracting and persisting diverse video assets (images, video segments, metadata).
  • Collaborate with experienced engineers to improve system usability, performance, and internal workflows.
  • Actively participate in code reviews, debugging, and documentation to ensure a reliable and robust production system.

Must-Have Skills & Experience

  • Academic background or coursework in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Familiarity with one or more prominent programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or similar.
  • Familiarity with video processing and streaming concepts.
  • A moderate understanding of web applications, APIs, and data-driven systems.
  • Demonstrated interest in backend systems, distributed services, or video/data pipelines.
  • Comfortable working within a collaborative development environment, utilizing version control systems like Git.
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong desire to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Possess good problem-solving skills and a keen attention to detail.
