Food Service Worker | Henry Ford Hospital – Detroit Main Campus

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Henry Ford Hospital, located in Detroit, MI. As a Food Service Worker, you will contribute directly to a positive experience for everyone on campus by delivering high-quality, safe, and empathetic meal services.

The TL;DR

• Team: Food & Nutrition team, reporting directly to department leadership.
• Mission: To provide high-quality meal service to patients, hospital employees, and visitors while maintaining rigorous food safety and sanitation standards across various operational areas.
• Tech Stack: Cash registers, Point-of-Sale (POS) systems, Basic personal computer, data entry skills

What You’ll Actually Do
• Meal Service: Assist with the preparation, portioning, and accurate plating of food items for patient trays, cafeteria lines, and catering events, ensuring quality presentation and timely, empathetic delivery.
• Cashier Operations: Operate cash registers and Point-of-Sale (POS) systems, accurately processing various forms of payment, handling cash responsibly, and reconciling daily sales as required.
• Sanitation & Safety: Uphold strict adherence to all food safety guidelines, HACCP principles, and departmental sanitation policies, maintaining cleanliness and organization of all work areas.
• Dish Room Management: Safely and efficiently operate commercial dish machines, cleaning and sanitizing trays, dishes, silverware, pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment.
• Inventory Control: Participate in the receiving, unpacking, stocking, rotating, and organizing of food products, beverages, and supplies, monitoring inventory levels and ensuring proper storage conditions.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career professional with a preferred High School Diploma or GED, possessing foundational knowledge in food service or cash handling environments.
• Experience: Six (6) months to one (1) year of previous work experience in a food service setting such as a restaurant, cafeteria, or hospital kitchen, or in a cash handling role like retail or customer service.
• Skills: Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently to understand instructions and communicate effectively; a strong commitment to customer service; and adherence to rigorous food safety and sanitation standards.
• Bonus: Basic personal computer and data entry skills, particularly for POS system operation, patient order entry, or inventory tracking.
