Are you a Master’s-level student looking for a unique macro internship experience? The Riverside Trauma Center is seeking motivated individuals to join their team in Dedham, MA. This opportunity is designed for students currently pursuing a Master of Social Work (MSW), Master of Public Health (MPH), or a related field, who are specifically interested in a macro-focused internship.
About the Internship
This internship provides an unparalleled chance to gain hands-on experience in the vital fields of suicide prevention, postvention, and critical incident response. Working within a dynamic, community-based setting, interns will collaborate with experienced clinicians and responders. The role focuses on contributing to:
- Training development and delivery
- Response coordination
- Systems-level initiatives that support individuals, organizations, and communities impacted by traumatic events.
Important Note: While this role includes a clinical lens, it does not involve the provision of therapy or clinical hours applicable toward clinical track or licensure requirements. It is fundamentally a macro-level experience.
Key Responsibilities of a Trauma Center Intern
As an intern, you will play a crucial role in the center’s mission by:
- Supporting Responses: Assisting with on-site, telephonic, and virtual services for suicide-related incidents and other traumatic events.
- Learning & Contributing: Observing, learning from, and contributing to structured interventions such as Psychological First Aid, trauma-informed group support, and consultation/referral processes.
- Workflow Development: Assisting in the development and refinement of workflows and protocols for high-risk industries concerning suicide prevention and postvention.
- Collaboration: Working with internal teams and external partners to ensure coordinated, trauma-informed response efforts.
- Training & Education: Supporting the delivery and adaptation of trainings on suicide prevention, postvention, trauma-informed care, and workforce wellness.
- Thought Leadership: Contributing to thought leadership and content development to advance best practices in the field.
- Professional Development: Participating actively in team meetings, trainings, and supervision; bringing insights and questions for discussion.
- Documentation: Assisting with documentation and preparation of reports related to response and training activities.
Schedule & Compensation
- Schedule: Flexible, Monday–Friday (16–24 hours per week).
- Compensation: Please note that this internship is unpaid.

Required Skills
- Transportation: Valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and willingness to travel regionally for response activities, trainings, and meetings. Mileage reimbursement is provided at a competitive rate.
- Interpersonal: Ability to build rapport and work effectively across cultures with diverse populations.
- Inclusivity: Understanding of, and sensitivity to, the needs of neurodiverse individuals and communities.
- Organizational: Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
- Technical: Comfort with virtual platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams) and ability to learn new systems.
Required Experience
- Education: Currently enrolled in an accredited Master’s-level Social Work (MSW), Public Health (MPH), or related program, seeking a macro-focused internship.
- Interest/Experience: Experience or strong interest in community-based work, advocacy, or systems-level initiatives.
