Deputy Court Clerk – Kenosha County Circuit Court
Kenosha County is actively seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and customer service-focused individual to join its Circuit Court staff as a Deputy Court Clerk. This role is a vital part of a team dedicated to continuous learning and supporting the fast-paced court operations within Kenosha County.
About the Role
The Deputy Court Clerk provides essential clerical support for the operations of the court, working under the direct supervision of the Clerk of Circuit Court and an assigned supervisor. This position demands outstanding customer service, particularly during stressful situations, the ability to effectively manage workload, and strict adherence to statutory timelines. Impeccable attention to detail is crucial for all assigned tasks.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
Deputy Court Clerks are expected to interact comfortably with members of the public, judges, attorneys, and executive-level management on a daily basis. The role involves a broad range of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Indexing new case filings.
- Receipting cash, credit card, and online payments.
- Docketing court entries and judgments.
- Performing record searches.
- Ensuring all court documents are prepared accurately and distributed on a timely basis.
- Ensuring proper application of payment information to case filings.
- Adhering to standard cash handling duties and receipting processes.
- Adhering to Model Court Recordkeeping procedures in the maintenance of court files.
- Providing information to internal and external customers regarding court record information.
- Acting as a receptionist for the main customer service desk and providing back-up to civil deputy court clerks.
- Serving as a liaison to other departments, law enforcement, litigants, service providers, and other involved parties.
- Preparing responses to record requests.
- Distributing court calendars.
- Explaining court procedures, processes, rules, and requirements (without providing legal advice).
- Timely and accurate filing and scanning documents for criminal, civil, traffic, small claims, family, probate, juvenile, and paternity matters.
- Providing excellent phone customer service.
- Correctly completing data entry duties.
- Learning and applying legal terminology.
- Following general office and clerical processes.
- Maintaining electronic court files.
- Performing other duties as required or assigned.
Experience and Qualifications
Experience:
- Minimum of two years of work experience in an office environment.
- Preferably in a legal court, financial, or corrections setting.
Success Factors (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- Knowledge of legal terminology, court procedures, and documents and information used in court proceedings.
- Skill in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Ability to perform basic math functions with the use of technology.
- Ability to balance a cash drawer.
- Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another.
- Ability to handle multiple procedural processes simultaneously.
- Ability to provide quality customer service and remain professional and courteous at all times.
- Ability to work independently to follow schedules and meet deadlines.
- Skill in communicating both verbally and in writing, with the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain confidential information, including personal identifying information and information contained in court records and proceedings.
- Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including a computer, calculator, scanner, telephone, and fax machine.
- Ability to work respectfully in a diverse and inclusive environment.

- Requires light physical demands, such as exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 10 pounds of force frequently.
