The Davey Tree Expert Company is currently accepting applications for a field-based Arborist Trainee Internship beginning in Spring-Summer 2026. This is a unique opportunity to learn from experienced professionals in the green industry and discover various career pathways within arboriculture.

Job Duties

As an Arborist Trainee Intern, you will learn to be a “tree doctor” and operate as a vital member of a tree crew, progressively learning new skills. Your responsibilities and learning opportunities will include:

• Working side-by-side with experienced Arborists, Climbers, Plant Health Care technicians, and Landscape professionals.
• Delivering exceptional client service and maintaining the health and beauty of trees and landscapes.
• Learning to climb trees safely and skillfully (yes, you will be paid to do this!).
• Performing all aspects of tree pruning and removal services, including:
  • Tree identification and understanding industry pruning guidelines.
  • Pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood throughout the tree canopy.
  • Learning how to install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems.
  • Assisting in the removal of hazardous trees.
• Properly maintaining, preparing, and operating all tools and equipment, including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts, and more.

Qualifications

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who meet the following criteria:

• Education: Currently studying Arboriculture, Urban Forestry, Natural Resources, Horticulture, Landscape Design, Forestry, or a related discipline.
• Licensing: A valid Driver’s license is required. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus.

• Must have enthusiasm for proper plant care and arboriculture.
• A genuine love for the outdoors.
• Positive attitude and a strong willingness to learn.
• Demonstrated ability to report to work regularly and punctually.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
