Job Summary

The Graduate Nurse operates under the general supervision of a Registered Nurse, providing comprehensive nursing care, which includes the accurate and timely administration of medications and treatments to patients. This role is fundamental to the day-to-day operations of patient care units.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provides Direct Patient Care: Delivers high-quality, patient-centered nursing care according to established care plans.
  • Medication Administration: Safely and accurately administers medications, including oral (PO), intramuscular (IM), and intravenous piggyback (IV PB) routes, ensuring timely delivery and precise documentation.
  • Medication Safeguarding: Responsible for the secure handling and safeguarding of all medications, including narcotics, in adherence to hospital policies.
  • IV Management: Initiates and assists with the ongoing maintenance of intravenous lines.
  • Accurate Documentation: Maintains meticulous and timely documentation of all care provided, observations made, and interventions performed.
  • Patient Education Support: Collaborates with other disciplines to assist in providing comprehensive patient education.
  • Unit Cleanliness: Actively assists in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the unit environment.
  • Admission & Discharge Support: Assists with the completion of patient admission and discharge assessments to ensure smooth transitions of care.
  • Respect for Patient Rights: Upholds and respects patient privacy, rights, and individual values, tailoring care accordingly.
  • Care Plan Implementation: Takes assigned responsibility for providing care for a specific group of patients, strictly adhering to the care plan developed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Reporting & Collaboration: Reports critical observations and pertinent patient information promptly to the Registered Nurse, fostering a close and harmonious working relationship.
  • New Employee Orientation: Assists in the orientation and training of new employees to facilitate their integration into the team.
  • Adherence to Standards: Administers nursing care safely and efficiently, strictly complying with all hospital policies, procedures, and the organizational philosophy.
  • Competency Completion: Successfully completes all required annual competencies to ensure ongoing professional development and skill proficiency.
  • Other Assigned Duties: Performs additional duties as assigned by supervising staff.
  • Policy Compliance: Adheres to all Corporate Policies, Departmental Policies and Procedures, and guidelines outlined in the Personnel Employee Handbook.
  • Cross-Training: Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to cross-train to other units within Rivers Health as needed.
  • Customer Service Excellence: Consistently demonstrates excellence in customer service skills, promoting a positive patient and visitor experience.
  • Teamwork & Collaboration: Fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration, actively participating in unit meetings and contributing positively to the team dynamic.
