About the Internship: Research & Development – Bioinformatics Intern
About the Department:
Our Research & Development organization is a hub of life science innovation, bringing together top minds across facilities in Lexington, Watertown, Cambridge, and Plainsboro. This dynamic environment covers the full R&D continuum, from early-stage research to late-stage clinical development. We are actively building a future-focused R&D community, fostering collaboration, partnerships, and cutting-edge research across diverse modalities and therapeutic areas. We understand that improving human health begins with our work and that patients depend on us. This R&D hub uniquely blends the speed and agility of a biotech with the quality, resources, and stability of a large pharmaceutical company, offering the best of both worlds to develop new medicines.
About the Program:
Novo Nordisk offers interns a unique opportunity to gain invaluable, hands-on, full-time work experience, working closely with seasoned industry professionals. Over ten working weeks, interns will be fully immersed in the environment of a global pharmaceutical company, contributing to the business with sustainable and meaningful project work. The program is designed for comprehensive professional and personal development, featuring instructor-led trainings, a leadership engagement series, and a guided mentorship program.
- Program Start: June 1st, 2026
- Program End: August 14th, 2026
Scope of Position:
This internship focuses on the powerful method of enhanced cross-linking and immunoprecipitation sequencing (eCLIP-seq) for studying protein-RNA interactions at a transcriptome scale. As an intern, you will play a crucial role in implementing or extending a data processing pipeline specifically for chimeric eCLIP-seq data. This will involve leveraging publicly available tools and workflows, utilizing a workflow management platform (Seqera/Nextflow), and employing containerization technologies (Docker/Singularity).
Your responsibilities will include:
- Running reproducible and scalable workflows on Seqera to analyze multiple chimeric eCLIP-seq datasets and single-cell transcriptomics datasets.
- Collaborating with wet-lab scientists and bioinformaticians to derive insights into the cell type delivery of therapeutic siRNAs and their interactions with the AGO2 protein.
- Profiling the targetome of individual therapeutic siRNAs.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Familiarity with the Linux Command line and scripting.
- Experience with Git for ensuring reproducibility.
- Understanding of Nextflow’s domain-specific language (DSL) for workflow orchestration.
- Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis, including steps such as QC, UMI/adapt trimming, alignment, and annotation.
Through this internship, you will gain significant knowledge of transcriptomics and RNA interference (RNAi), along with hands-on experience working with CLIP datasets containing chimeric reads and various CLIP-seq peak calling tools.
Physical Requirements:
- 0% overnight travel required.
Qualifications:
To be considered for this internship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a current student enrolled at an accredited college or university, pursuing at least a bachelor’s degree.
- An in-progress undergraduate or graduate degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related discipline is preferred.
