What We Look For In a Guitar Tutor:
- Advanced Subject Mastery:
- Deep knowledge of guitar technique, including fretting, strumming, fingerpicking, chord voicings, scales, and music theory for guitar.
- Proficiency in reading tablature and standard notation.
- Extensive repertoire across acoustic, electric, classical, and popular styles.
- Ability to clearly explain complex concepts such as barre chords, pentatonic and modal scales, and rhythm patterns.
- Skill in preparing students for performance, auditions, and music coursework.
- Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving:
- Skilled at teaching progressive guitar technique, chord transitions, and musical expression.
- Ability to guide students through proper hand positioning, open and barre chord mastery, scale pattern navigation, and fingerpicking technique.
- Emphasis on connecting technique to musical goals and teaching effective practice strategies.
- Ability to connect guitar playing to music theory, songwriting, and ensemble performance.
- Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction:
- Familiarity with various guitar pedagogy methods and common student challenges (e.g., finger strength development, barre chord difficulty, reading notation vs. tablature).
- Capability to adapt instruction using method books, popular song arrangements, and technique exercises.
- Ability to support learners from absolute beginners through advanced players in acoustic, electric, classical, or popular guitar styles.
- Effective Teaching Methods:
- Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with.
- Skill in explaining material using multiple approaches and adapting instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
- Strong Communication & Engagement:
- Excellent communication skills.
