What We Look For In a GED Math Tutor

  • Advanced Test Mastery: Possess deep knowledge of GED Mathematical Reasoning content, including basic arithmetic, fractions, decimals, percentages, algebra, geometry, data analysis, and quantitative problem-solving using the TI-30XS calculator. Ability to clearly explain linear equations, slope and graphing, area and volume formulas, and statistical reasoning while preparing adult learners to achieve passing scores on the GED Math section.
  • Strategic Test-Taking & Problem-Solving: Skilled at teaching effective calculator usage strategies, translating word problems into mathematical expressions, and interpreting graphs specifically for the GED Math test. Guide students through solving multi-step equations, applying the Pythagorean theorem, computing measures of central tendency, and using proportional reasoning. Emphasize building mathematical confidence and systematic problem-solving approaches for non-traditional learners.
  • Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Be familiar with GED Mathematical Reasoning content standards and common challenges students face, such as fraction operations, setting up algebraic equations from word problems, and interpreting coordinate plane graphs. Adapt instruction using diagnostic pretests, scaffolded skill progressions, and official GED practice materials to effectively support adult learners rebuilding foundational math skills for credential completion.
  • Effective Teaching Methods: Demonstrate the ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
  • Strong Communication: Possess strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
