Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented IT Analyst Intern to support our IT and Cybersecurity team during a critical period of system configuration and process alignment for Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) compliance. This role will be onsite at our Headquarters building in Lexington Park, MD.

This internship provides hands-on exposure to compliance implementation, technical documentation, system configuration, and cybersecurity best practices within a regulated federal contracting environment. The intern will work directly with IT and Cyber personnel to assist in aligning technical controls, documenting processes, validating configurations, and supporting internal audit readiness efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the ISSO and Systems Administrator to learn and assist in documenting policies, procedures, and technical controls related to CMMC compliance.
  • Support review and organization of system security documentation (SSP, POA&Ms, asset inventories, data flow diagrams, etc.).
  • Help validate configuration settings across systems to ensure alignment with CMMC and NIST 800-171 requirements.
  • Conduct research on cybersecurity best practices and compliance standards.
  • Assist with user access reviews and account audits.
  • Support IT asset management and inventory validation.
  • Participate in internal compliance meetings and take detailed documentation notes.
  • Assist with testing and evidence collection for control implementation.
  • Provide general IT support assistance as needed, such as troubleshooting, help desk support, etc.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the internship, the student will gain experience in:

  • Cybersecurity documentation and compliance auditing.
  • Risk management and mitigation planning.
  • Secure system configuration practices.
  • Working within a DoD contractor environment.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Basic understanding of cybersecurity principles and basic technology specifications.
  • Strong written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with NIST frameworks or CMMC.
  • Basic experience with Microsoft 365 administration and general network constructs.
  • Understanding of access control concepts.
  • Prior internship or IT support experience.

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to learn and apply new information and/or skills. Must be able to interpret data, information, and documents.
  • Occasionally will need to lift/and or move up to 20lbs.
  • This is largely a sedentary role; This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
