Diesel Technician Trainee | Ryder

The Tone:
This is a full-time Diesel Technician Trainee role at Ryder, located in Garner, NC. Ryder offers a significant opportunity for individuals with no prior experience to launch a new career as a skilled Diesel Mechanic Technician. This position provides comprehensive paid training to develop valuable technical expertise for maintaining Ryder’s fleet, ensuring operational efficiency and vehicle safety. You will gain hands-on experience and structured learning to grow into an essential role within the company.

What You’ll Actually Do
Vehicle Operations: Safely move heavy-duty vehicles in and out of the yard, wash bay, service shop, or for delivery to rental locations.
Fueling & Detailing: Fuel diesel, natural gas, and hybrid vehicles while adhering to safety protocols, maintaining accurate inventories, and washing/detailing vehicles.
Multi-Point Inspections: Conduct thorough multi-point inspections on inbound units, checking tire pressure, fluid levels, lights, and reporting any service or driver-related issues.
Facility Maintenance: Maintain the fuel island area to Six Sigma standards and perform assigned minor facility maintenance tasks.
Skills Development: Attend and successfully complete all requirements and assessments of the Technician Training Development Program, including hands-on and online modules for various technician levels.

The Must-Haves
• Background: This is an entry-level, early-career opportunity requiring individuals to be 18 years of age or older. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. This is a DOT safety-regulated and safety-sensitive position, requiring candidates to pass a Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and a comprehensive background and motor vehicle check.
• Experience: No prior mechanical experience is required, as comprehensive paid training is provided. The ability to obtain a Commercial Driver License (CDL) within 6 months of hire is a requirement for regulated tech positions.
• Skills: Strong English written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated customer service capabilities, and a strong technical aptitude to learn equipment maintenance. Basic computer proficiency in a Microsoft Office environment and a strong sense of personal accountability are essential.
• Bonus: A High School diploma or equivalent, zero to one year of mechanical experience (especially with diesel engines), ability to quickly troubleshoot problems, strong time management, and beginner-level knowledge of machines, tools, or shop management systems are all beneficial. A valid CDL Class A is also preferred.
