Junior 3D CAD Modeler | Amentum

The Tone:
This is an early career role at Amentum, located in Dahlgren, VA. Amentum is a company dedicated to supporting critical naval defense projects for the U.S. Navy. This role is crucial for developing and maintaining 3D CAD models of Navy ships, specifically for Integrated Topside Design and Computational Electromagnetic (CEM) modeling and analysis. The work directly contributes to naval defense and requires precision and attention to detail.

• Pay: $32.06–$36.06 hourly
• Mission: To support the creation and updates of 3D models for U.S. Navy ships to aid in Integrated Topside Design and Computational Electromagnetic (CEM) analysis.
• Tech Stack: Autodesk Inventor Professional, Solidworks, Catia, Pro-E, NX, Solidedge, Autodesk Vault Professional

What You’ll Actually Do
• Model: Support Integrated Topside Design (ITD) CAD model development for naval vessels.
• Scan: Perform 3D LiDAR scanning support for shipboard operations.
• Create: Assist the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, in the creation and updates of 3D models of U.S. Navy ships.
• Operate: Support shipboard laser 3D scanning operations.
• Develop: Create 3D models specifically for use in Computational Electromagnetic (CEM) modeling and analysis.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career professional capable of obtaining and maintaining an Active Secret US Government Clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
• Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of demonstrated parametric modeling knowledge using Autodesk Inventor Professional; acceptable alternatives include Solidworks, Catia, Pro-E, NX, or Solidedge, provided candidates also possess an Autodesk Inventor Essentials certificate of completion for the current release year.
• Skills: Parametric 3D CAD modeling; 3D LiDAR scanning; precise 3D CAD model creation from technical data; creation and modification of 2D drawings.
• Bonus: Demonstrated 3D CAD model development experience in ship design (including commercial antennas, lights, cameras, ship hulls, masts, or weapon systems); experience importing and reverse engineering native CAD models into different platforms; proficiency in creating and modifying 3D CAD assembly models with over 1000 components; demonstrated experience working with DoD, ASME, ANSI, and other Military standards; an Autodesk Vault Professional Essentials certificate of completion for the current release year.
