New Graduate Registered Nurse

The New Graduate Registered Nurse (RN) position offers a unique opportunity for recent nursing graduates to refine their knowledge and skills within a supportive clinical environment. Under the direct supervision of an experienced Registered Nurse preceptor, the New Graduate RN will engage in both direct and indirect patient care functions. This role is specifically designed to facilitate a smooth and effective transition from student nurse to a fully integrated member of the healthcare team.

This position plays a crucial role in supporting organizational objectives by delivering high-quality customer service, actively participating in performance improvement initiatives, and demonstrating a strong commitment to teamwork and cooperation.

Automatic enrollment in the New Graduate Nurse Residency Program is a mandatory component of this position. This comprehensive one-year program is essential for the nurse’s successful transition to independent practice, providing invaluable support through monthly seminars and formalized mentorship to ensure a strong foundation for a professional nursing career.

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred.
  • LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
    • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required upon hire or transfer.
    • AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is required within 6 months of hire or transfer.
  • EXPERIENCE:
    • Demonstrated interpersonal skills essential for effective communication and collaboration with other team members.
    • Ability to be flexible, proficiently set priorities, adeptly solve problems, and exercise sound judgment in challenging situations.
    • Proficiency in Clinical Applications is preferred at the time of hire. Incumbents will receive appropriate training, and this skill will be required for the position within 30-60 days from the date of hire.

Performance Expectations

The New Graduate Registered Nurse is expected to demonstrate competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool specific to this position.

Work Environment

This role involves potential exposure to the inherent hazards and risks of a hospital environment, including but not limited to infectious diseases, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous substances, and potential for injury.

Physical Demands:

  • Reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching approximately 25% of a workday.
  • Visual and physical ability required to work at a computer terminal.
  • Standing and walking approximately 50% of a workday.
  • Lifting approximately 50-100 pounds frequently, with assistance occasionally.
  • Physical abilities required to push, pull, or transport equipment and patients.

This position reports directly to Nursing unit leadership.
