Varsity Tutors operates a Live Learning Platform, leveraging advanced technology, AI, and the latest learning science to create personalized learning experiences. What You’ll Actually Do
• Instruct: Provide personalized 1-on-1 online tutoring, delivering customized instruction to individual students or accepting on-demand instant tutoring requests, all through the purpose-built Live Learning Platform.
• Support: Utilize the AI-powered Tutor Copilot for real-time instructional assistance, lesson plan generation, and to enhance student engagement during sessions, thereby reducing your preparation time.
• Guide: Lead students through complex problem-solving in advanced functions, breaking down challenging concepts such as polynomial factoring and division, solving exponential and logarithmic equations, and verifying trigonometric identities.
• Adapt: Tailor teaching methods and materials to meet diverse student learning needs and styles, incorporating tools like graphing software, real-world modeling activities, and cumulative review strategies.
• Prepare: Develop students’ comprehensive understanding of advanced functions, emphasizing connections between algebraic representations and graphical behavior, to ensure their robust readiness for university-level calculus and STEM programs.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Expert-level knowledge in advanced functions, covering polynomial and rational function analysis, logarithmic and exponential functions, trigonometric functions and identities, function transformations, composition, and inverses, rates of change, and introductory limit concepts.
• Experience: Demonstrated proficiency in teaching complex mathematical concepts, with a focus on guiding students to break down problems, analyze graphs, and prepare effectively for higher education in calculus and STEM fields. Familiarity with specific curricula like Ontario MHF4U and equivalent courses is expected.
• Skills:
• Advanced Subject Mastery: Possess deep knowledge of all core advanced functions topics, including the ability to clearly explain asymptotic behavior, end behavior, and differentiate between average versus instantaneous rates of change.
• Conceptual Teaching & Problem-Solving: Skilled in breaking down intricate problems such as solving rational inequalities, graphing reciprocal functions, and applying logarithm laws, while also guiding students through comprehensive graph analysis for symmetry, increase/decrease intervals, and concavity.
• Curriculum Awareness & Adaptive Instruction: Familiarity with advanced functions curricula and common student challenges, along with the ability to adapt instruction using various educational technologies and real-world applications to enhance understanding.
• Effective Teaching Methods & Communication: Ability to identify and address concepts students commonly struggle with, explain material using multiple approaches, and adapt instruction to meet individual learning styles, all delivered with strong communication skills and an engaging teaching style.
