What You’ll Actually Do
• Guide: Guide students in developing an authentic voice, selecting compelling topics, demonstrating “showing versus telling” in personal narratives, and tailoring supplemental essays effectively.
• Prepare: Prepare high school juniors and seniors for competitive college and university admissions processes by helping them craft compelling personal statements.
• Teach: Teach brainstorming techniques, personal narrative construction, and iterative revision processes for college application essays.
• Adapt: Adapt instruction using various methods, including brainstorming exercises, model essay analysis, and multiple revision rounds, to support student needs.
• Support: Provide personalized, in-depth 1-on-1 online tutoring or immediate support through instant, on-demand tutoring requests.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Profound knowledge of Common Application, Coalition Application, and various supplemental essay prompts. Expertise in narrative essay techniques, personal statement structure, and understanding of admissions reader expectations.
• Experience: Demonstrated ability to guide students through identifying meaningful personal topics, developing vivid anecdotes, and maintaining an authentic voice, with familiarity with common student challenges like avoiding cliches and conveying personality within word limits.
• Skills:
• Skilled at teaching brainstorming techniques, personal narrative construction, and iterative revision processes for college application essays.
• Capability to adapt instruction using various methods to support individual learning needs and styles.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
