What You’ll Actually Do
• Guide: Guide students in developing an authentic voice, selecting compelling topics, mastering “showing versus telling”, and tailoring supplemental essays for competitive college and university admissions processes.
• Teach: Teach brainstorming techniques, personal narrative construction, and iterative revision for college application essays, emphasizing genuine self-reflection and connecting essay writing to broader admissions strategy.
• Adapt: Adapt instruction using brainstorming exercises, model essay analysis, and multiple revision rounds to support high school juniors and seniors in crafting compelling personal statements for selective admissions applications.
• Provide: Provide personalized 1-on-1 online instruction to individual students, helping them achieve their specific learning goals.
• Accept: Accept on-demand tutoring requests for instant tutoring sessions whenever available, offering flexible support.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Advanced subject mastery in college application essay writing, including deep knowledge of Common Application, Coalition Application, and supplemental essay prompts. Expertise in narrative essay techniques, personal statement structure, and understanding admissions reader expectations, with the ability to guide students in developing an authentic voice and selecting compelling topics.
• Experience: Proven ability to teach brainstorming techniques, personal narrative construction, and iterative revision for college application essays, along with experience in guiding students through identifying meaningful personal topics, developing vivid anecdotes, and strategically addressing supplemental prompts. Familiarity with college admissions essay expectations and common challenges is essential.
• Skills: Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style, coupled with proficiency in adapting instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles. Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with and explain material using multiple approaches.
