The Tone:
This is a freelance position at Varsity Tutors, located remotely. Varsity Tutors builds a Live Learning Platform that leverages advanced technology, AI, and learning science to create personalized learning experiences for students. As an OAR Tutor, you will play a crucial role in supporting thousands of students nationally, making a significant impact on their academic success and understanding as they prepare for the Officer Aptitude Rating examination.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Instruction: Deliver personalized 1-on-1 online tutoring sessions covering OAR examination content including math, reading comprehension, and mechanical comprehension.
• Guidance: Guide students through algebraic problem-solving, reading passage analysis, and fundamental mechanical principles relevant to the OAR.
• Strategy: Teach strategic test-taking, time management, and problem-solving techniques specifically for the OAR examination.
• Adaptation: Adapt instruction using OAR practice tests, math review materials, and mechanical comprehension guides to address individual student learning needs and common challenges.
• Logistics: Invoice for your completed tutoring sessions, allowing Varsity Tutors to handle payment processing.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Deep knowledge of OAR (Officer Aptitude Rating) examination content, covering math skills, reading comprehension, and mechanical comprehension for Navy officer candidate selection.
• Experience: Skilled at teaching mathematical reasoning, reading comprehension strategies, and mechanical reasoning for the OAR examination, emphasizing time management and targeting specific composite scores.
• Skills:
• Ability to explain algebraic problem-solving, reading passage analysis, and basic physics and mechanical principles using multiple approaches.
• Familiarity with common OAR examination challenges such as math skills gaps and mechanical reasoning without an engineering background.
• Strong communication skills and an engaging teaching style, adaptable to different learning styles and student needs.
