Youth Development Specialist | Alpha School

Your work will directly influence individual student trajectories and campus functionality by focusing on non-academic growth and motivation.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Workshop Facilitation: Facilitate one-hour life skills workshops for K-12 students, covering topics like public speaking, concentration, and time management, utilizing project-based and interactive methods.
• Motivational Coaching: Conduct daily individual motivation sessions, engaging with students to examine their adaptive learning app progress and driving them toward 100% weekly goal achievement.
• Mastery Assessment: Organize and execute mastery-based assessments (Test2Pass) to verify students have genuinely acquired each skill.
• Relationship Development: Develop authentic connections with every student so they trust your guidance through moments of resistance, distraction, and uncertainty.
• Performance Monitoring: Monitor student advancement relative to satisfaction metrics and goal completion rates, modifying your methods when outcomes don’t meet expectations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline. Mid-career professional experience with youth.
• Experience: 3+ years of direct experience working with K-8 students in capacities such as teaching, coaching, counseling, or youth program leadership. Capacity to participate in a paid training program at Alpha’s Austin, TX campus is required.
• Skills: Mentoring, Leading Meetings, Reporting & Analysis, Presentation Skills, People Management.
• Bonus: A background in youth development like athletic coaching or camp leadership, a demonstrated history of personal high achievement, innate storytelling capability, and experience re-engaging disinterested or resistant students.
