Clinical Internship Program | Casa Counseling/Consejeria

The Tone:
This is a clinical internship at Casa Counseling/Consejeria. Casa Counseling/Consejeria, a division of Casa de la Familia, operates a Mental Health Community Clinic dedicated to offering low-cost therapy programs to ensure broad access to counseling services. This role is crucial for equipping the next generation of mental health professionals with a strong foundation in evidence-based practices, enabling them to competently serve individuals and families within the mental health system.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Clinical Practice: Provide individual, family, and group therapy, managing a caseload of approximately 12 clients, including performing crisis intervention and intake assessments.
• Client Care Coordination: Coordinate care within a multidisciplinary team and with external partners, such as law enforcement and community organizations, to ensure excellent patient outcomes.
• Risk Management: Assess clinical crises and apply essential risk management techniques, learning to safeguard clients effectively.
• Professional Development: Participate in monthly training sessions covering intervention strategies, best practices, and topics such as trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, legal aspects of domestic violence, and LGBTQ+ clinical issues.
• Community Engagement: Engage in developing community supports and delivering community presentations to broaden access to mental health resources.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Current enrollment as a graduate student pursuing a master’s level degree in social work (MSW) or marriage family therapy (MFT) from an accredited professional graduate school.
• Commitment: Ability to commit to a 12-month program duration, working a minimum of 20 hours per week, including 10 hours of direct patient care.
• Skills: Foundational understanding of evidence-based practices, capability to conduct intake assessments, apply crisis intervention, and deliver individual, family, and group therapy.
• Supervision: Willingness to actively participate in required weekly individual (1 hour) and group (2 hours) clinical supervision, provided by supervisors qualified by either the Board of Behavioral Sciences or the Board of Psychology.
