• Mission: Preserve community peace and safety by enforcing laws, investigating incidents, and providing responsive police services.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Law Enforcement: Enforce state and federal laws, and City regulations according to Vernon Police Department policies to preserve peace.
• Community Policing: Provide community-oriented police services, partner with citizens to address safety issues, and assure courteous treatment of individuals.
• Incident Response: Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, investigate crimes and accidents, secure scenes, and collect evidence.
• Patrol & Regulation: Patrol the City for unusual and suspicious activities, enforce traffic regulations, apprehend violators, and assure public safety.
• Documentation & Testimony: Complete detailed reports and required paperwork, and testify in court as directed.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career; High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND completion of training and Peace Officer certification with the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), and Basic POST certificate.
• Experience: Recent California State Police Academy Graduate. Upon hire must participate in and successfully complete a minimum of 19 weeks of Field Training.
• Skills: Valid California State Driver’s License; must maintain Peace Officer certification with the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST), and Basic POST certification.
