About the Internship Program at DTNA
Interns at Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) will gain valuable knowledge and practical experience through exciting and real-life learning opportunities. All interns are expected to work in accordance with DTNA’s core values: passion, respect, integrity, and discipline. Internship positions are available at various DTNA locations across the US, and we are actively seeking high-performing, motivated individuals for various departments within the organization. DTNA internships typically commence each summer in May or June.
Interns in this specific role may also have the opportunity to transition into a full-time position, subject to manager evaluations and business availability.

About This Role: Technical Information Transfer & AI Integration
This position is instrumental in achieving Daimler Truck’s autonomous vision by ensuring the smooth, efficient, and easily digestible transfer of technical information related to the autonomous trucking platform. By expanding access to technical specifications to a larger audience, this role will help to both broaden and deepen the entire organization’s knowledge of the autonomous truck design and capabilities, as well as that of our autonomous partners.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary placement for this internship is determined by your anticipated graduation year and ranges between $21 – $29 per hour.

Key Responsibilities (What You Drive At DTNA)
- Curate and Structure Technical Documentation: Review and organize autonomous semi-truck specifications into modular, machine-readable formats suitable for AI ingestion.
- Train and Evaluate AI Model: Assist in training language models or retrieval systems to accurately answer user queries based on truck documentation; test and refine model outputs.
- Develop Semantic Search Capabilities: Implement tagging, embedding, and indexing strategies to enable efficient search and retrieval of technical content.
- Collaborate Across Engineering Teams: Work closely with product managers and truck engineers to ensure documentation accuracy and alignment with user needs.
- Foster Inclusive Workplace: Lead and support efforts to foster an inclusive and welcoming workplace culture where everyone belongs.
Required Skills & Knowledge (Knowledge You Should Bring)
- Education: Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program or higher from an accredited college/university OR have recently graduated within 1 year of the position start date (May/June).
- Coding: Proficiency in Python or a similar coding language for scripting and data parsing.
- Natural Language Processing (NLP): Experience with NLP tools.
- Data Structures: Understanding of vector databases and structured formats (e.g., JSON, YAML, Markdown).
- Version Control: Experience with Git for version control.
- Documentation Platforms: Familiarity with documentation platforms like Confluence or Notion.
- AI/ML Concepts: Knowledge engineering and prompt design, AI model evaluation, and dataset curation.
- Documentation Practices: Experience with modular documentation structuring.
- Methodologies: Agile collaboration.
- Personal Attributes: Detail-oriented and organized, strong written and verbal communication, curious and proactive learner, team-oriented and adaptable, solid organizational skills, creative mindset, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a team environment.
Work Location & Schedule
This position is open to applicants who can work in (or relocate to) Portland, OR US. Relocation assistance for this position is available when the selected candidate meets eligibility criteria.
