Computer Engineering or Software Engineering Intern | Leidos

The Tone:
This is an internship at Leidos, focusing on cutting-edge engineering efforts within the Maritime System Solutions Portfolio of our Maritime Systems Division. Leidos is a recognized leader in C4ISR technologies, developing advanced maritime solutions including underwater vehicle systems, sensors, subsea telemetry, and ISR capabilities. This role offers an opportunity to contribute directly to innovations that support critical defense and national security missions, helping to maintain U.S. maritime dominance and achieve industry firsts in challenging maritime domains.

• Team: Multidisciplinary team within the Maritime Systems Division’s Maritime System Solutions (MSS) Portfolio.
• Mission: To contribute to innovation and development efforts for advanced maritime technologies, from prototype design to full-scale system deployment, within underwater vehicle systems, maritime sensors, subsea telemetry, and ISR solutions that support critical defense and national security missions.
• Tech Stack: Microcontrollers, FPGAs, Python, Bash, MATLAB, SPICE, C/C++, VHDL, Verilog.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Drive Innovation: Contribute to technical innovation and product improvements, ensuring these developments are aligned with specific customer needs and broader mission goals for advanced maritime technologies.
• Software & Firmware Development: Assist with the crucial Firmware and Software development tasks tailored for microcontrollers and FPGAs, contributing to the core functionality of subsea systems.
• Testing and Validation: Provide support in the development and execution of comprehensive tests and test procedures, ensuring the reliability and performance of new maritime systems.
• Professional Growth: Proactively accept and engage in more challenging assignments as your skills and experience develop, contributing to full-scale system deployment for ongoing Navy missions.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Enrolled in an accredited degree program for Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or Computer Science, with completion of at least a freshman-level engineering curriculum.
• Experience: The ability to work both independently and collaboratively towards defined engineering objectives, alongside a strong commitment to producing complete and accurate documentation for all designs, procedures, analyses, and test results as part of the engineering deliverables.
• Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel), and U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain a SECRET clearance.
• Bonus: A minimum 3.0 GPA, completion of at least one undergraduate programming or scripting language course, functional literacy of Linux operating systems including basic command line tools, and familiarity with languages such as Python, Bash, MATLAB, SPICE, C/C++, VHDL, or Verilog.
