Web Developer / Coder Student Internship (For Senior & Junior Academic College Credit)

Internship Overview
This internship is designed for students seeking academic credit while gaining hands-on experience in web development and coding within a real-world professional environment. The program aligns with college and university internship-for-credit requirements and emphasizes practical skill development, mentorship, and portfolio-ready outcomes.
- Internship Title: Web Developer / Coder Intern
- Eligible For: Senior & Junior College Credit
- Websites: 1-10 Active and or Under Construction
- Duration: 8–16 weeks (aligned with academic term)
- Hours: 10–20 hours/week (or per school requirement)
- Based: Must currently be located in San Diego, California
Academic Credit Alignment
This internship is structured to meet typical academic credit criteria, including:
- Clearly defined learning objectives
- Ongoing supervision and mentorship
- Measurable work outcomes and evaluations
- Documentation of hours worked
- Final performance review or project submission
The host organization will cooperate with the student’s school to complete:
- Internship Learning Agreement
- Midterm and final evaluations
- Supervisor verification of hours
Learning Objectives
By the end of the internship, the student will:
- Apply front-end and/or back-end coding skills in a professional setting
- Understand real-world web development workflows
- Collaborate using version control and project management tools
- Improve problem-solving and debugging skills
- Build a portfolio-ready project or feature
- Develop professional communication and teamwork skills
Key Responsibilities
Primary Focus: Website format, page(s) fitting, user-friendly design across all devices (desktop, laptop, tablet, and mobile), and creative visual display.
- Be familiar with and work on platforms such as www.Website.com and www.Owrbit.com
- Assist in building, formatting, and maintaining websites or web applications
- Optimize layouts, spacing, and responsiveness for all screen sizes
- Improve navigation, usability, accessibility, and user experience (UX)
- Write, test, and debug clean, scalable front-end and/or back-end code
- Work with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks (React, Vue, etc.)
- Support backend development (Node.js, Python, PHP, or similar)
- Collaborate using Git/GitHub
- Participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, or code reviews
- Optimize site performance, load speed, SEO basics, and accessibility
- Help implement APIs, databases, or CMS features
Technologies & Tools (Exposure May Include)
- HTML5 / CSS3 / JavaScript
- React, Vue, or similar frameworks
- Node.js, Python, or PHP
- Git & GitHub
- REST APIs
- SQL or NoSQL databases
- Figma or design handoff tools
- Agile / Scrum workflows

- Developing with Intern(s)
- Real-time technical guidance and feedback

Evaluation & Assessment
Student performance will be evaluated based on:
- Attendance and professionalism
- Quality and consistency of code
- Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines
- Collaboration and communication
- Completion of agreed-upon learning objectives
Evaluation methods may include:
- Supervisor evaluations (midterm & final)
- Code reviews
- Final project or written reflection
Deliverables
- Completed web features, pages, or applications
- Documented code contributions (GitHub)
- Final project summary or demo
- Internship reflection (if required by school)

- Currently enrolled student (Computer Science, Web Development, IT, or related field)
- Basic knowledge of web technologies
- Strong interest in coding and learning
- Ability to commit required internship hours
Credit & Compliance Statement
This internship is primarily educational and structured to benefit the student’s academic and professional development. May lead to employment. Academic credit is granted solely by the student’s educational institution.
This document may be submitted to academic advisors, internship offices, or department heads for approval.
