Early Career Technologist | MetLife

The Tone:
This is an early career position at MetLife, located in Cary, NC, with a full-time start date expected in mid-June. MetLife’s Global Technology team is dedicated to shaping the future of digital solutions for customers worldwide, building, maintaining, and supporting resilient, scalable, and secure infrastructure platforms. Leveraging automation, cloud-native technologies, and contemporary ways of working, the team aims to simplify complex systems and enhance operational efficiency. As an Early Career Technologist, you will contribute to the development and support of software applications that help people build a more confident future, working in a collaborative, agile environment with exposure to modern software engineering practices and AI-enabling technologies.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Requirements: Assist in gathering and refining product requirements and user stories.
• Development: Support the design, development, testing, and deployment of full stack software applications (UI, API, Data) while leveraging AI tools.
• Review: Participate in peer reviews of code, solution designs, and configurations.
• Support: Help investigate and resolve production incidents and service requests.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify innovative solutions and contribute to the integration of AI capabilities into applications.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a closely related discipline must be conferred prior to the start date for this early career role.
• Experience: Internship or academic project experience in software development or AI/ML is required. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to quickly learn and apply new skills to deliver high quality software, as evidenced by academic or project experience.
• Skills: Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Java, Python, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, COBOL); basic understanding of software design principles and coding best practices; familiarity with database concepts, design, and development; familiarity with cloud-native technologies (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP); basic knowledge of secure coding practices and automated testing; strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Bonus: Understanding of Agile practices, DevSecOps, and CI/CD pipelines; familiarity with tools like GitHub CoPilot, Azure DevOps, Docker, or Kubernetes; exposure to AI/ML and other technology concepts such as prompt engineering, LLM APIs (e.g., Azure OpenAI), AI SDKs and frameworks (e.g., LangChain, Hugging Face, TensorFlow, Semantic Kernel); responsive UI/UX development; microservice vs. monolithic architectures; containerization; and relational vs. NoSQL databases.
