Research Assistant Intern | Woodwell Climate Research Center
The Tone:
This is an internship at Woodwell Climate Research Center, located in Falmouth, MA. The center conducts science for solutions at the nexus of climate, people, and nature, advancing science-based climate policies through scientific research and outreach. This role contributes to world-leading research that helps individuals, organizations, and communities understand climate change and embrace urgent action. As a Research Assistant Intern, you will help study salt marsh restoration outcomes to develop practical frameworks for assessing marsh ecology, biogeochemistry, and overall ecosystem health.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Site Documentation: Visit and understand diverse salt marsh restoration practices, developing clear documentation of site conditions.
• Sample Collection: Collect soil, sediment, and vegetation samples for subsequent laboratory analysis.
• Laboratory Studies: Determine carbon content and set up incubation studies within the laboratory environment.
• Data Analysis: Collect and analyze research data under guidance.
• Outreach Engagement: Assist and engage in community outreach programming, potentially with local K-12 groups.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in (or graduating Spring 2026 from) an undergraduate program in Environmental Science, Soil Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geoscience, Agriculture, or a related field, with a foundational understanding of environmental science, soil science, or nutrient cycling.
• Experience: Prior laboratory experience in analytical chemistry or biology.
• Skills: Familiarity with R or Python for data manipulation and visualization, an understanding of soil biogeochemistry, microbial ecology, and data analysis principles.
