The Tone:
This is a part-time internship at Surfline Wavetrak, located remotely within California. Surfline connects millions of people globally with the ocean, providing advanced tools, personalized insights, and immersive content for enhanced maritime experiences. This role is crucial for supporting daily forecast operations and improving the accuracy and communication of surf reports for a wide audience. The intern will gain hands-on experience in meteorological forecasting and environmental data analysis while contributing to projects impacting Surfline’s global audience.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Forecast Creation: Assist in creating daily surf reports and forecasts for domestic markets.
• Data Monitoring: Monitor real-time data sources such as buoys, wind stations, and smart cameras for accuracy.
• Data Validation: Support data validation by analyzing surf model outputs and observational data.
• Workflow Automation: Use Python for tasks including automating workflows, cleaning datasets, and creating visualizations.
• Content Preparation: Assist in preparing content that communicates forecast accuracy and model updates.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (Junior or Senior preferred) with coursework or experience in Meteorology, Oceanography, Data Science, or related fields.
• Experience: No specific years required, but must be an undergraduate student.
• Skills: Basic proficiency in Python (data manipulation, scripting, plotting), strong attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Bonus: Passion for surfing, ocean science, or coastal environments, and familiarity with surf forecasting concepts or frameworks.
