2026 Summer Engineering Intern | HBK Engineering, LLC

The Tone:
This is a summer engineering intern position at HBK Engineering, LLC, a firm with headquarters in Chicago, IL and 25 offices nationwide. HBK Engineering provides civil, environmental, structural, electrical, and subsurface utility engineering design services, focusing on the design and protection of utility networks. This role offers an excellent learning environment where interns gain hands-on field and design experience, taking on technically challenging and educationally stimulating tasks as an integral part of the company.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship

• Pay: $18–$21 hourly
• Mission: Solve a wide variety of civil and electrical/power engineering related issues and assist in coordinating detailed design phases for utility infrastructure projects.
• Tech Stack: Computer application software, CAD-based software, Microsoft Office Suite

What You’ll Actually Do
• Investigate: Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve a wide variety of civil and electrical/power engineering related issues.
• Coordinate: Work with a team lead in the coordination of detailed design phases for all aspects of civil and electrical engineering work.
• Design: Perform designs for utility infrastructure using standard engineering guidelines.
• Manage: Assist in leading efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget.
• Prepare: Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Experience: At least one year of post-secondary education completed towards the Bachelor’s degree.
• Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, Strong problem solving and analytical skills, Working knowledge of computer application software, Organized and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Bonus: Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred, Prior internship and/or related consulting experience, Involvement on campus or in the community, Flexible and able to work overtime when required, Demonstrated leadership skills, Experience using CAD-based software and Microsoft Office Suite, Surveying experience.
