Summer Application Specialist Intern | Kidwell
The Tone:
This is a full-time summer internship at Kidwell, located in Omaha/Lincoln. Kidwell is seeking a hard-working, positive, and self-motivated individual to contribute to software development and AI/ML initiatives. This role is crucial for supporting the Application Specialist in developing and integrating software solutions across the organization. It offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in real-world technical projects alongside experienced professionals in a supportive environment.

• Mission: Support the Application Specialist in developing and integrating software solutions, with a particular focus on AI/ML initiatives.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Assist in analyzing, designing, and supporting RESTful APIs and software integration across the organization.
• Write and optimize SQL queries to support reporting, automation, and core application functionality.
• Develop and test Python-based scripts and applications for various technical needs.
• Assist with converting SQL queries into API calls using JSON or XML data formats.
• Complete a summer AI/ML-focused project, which may involve data analysis, predictive modeling, or automation initiatives.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field; early career level.
• Experience: Working knowledge of Python and SQL is required to perform core development tasks.
• Skills: Python, SQL, strong verbal, written, communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills, along with honesty, dependability, organization, and strong attention to detail.
• Bonus: Coursework or a minor in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or Data Science; a basic understanding of RESTful APIs, object-oriented programming, and database structures.
