Overview
Con Edison is seeking an Architect with a strong technology foundation who is eager to grow into a future enterprise architecture leader. This role offers technical leadership within delivery teams, optimizes the technology landscape, and contributes to both short-term and long-term Enterprise Tech & Security (ETS) strategy. The position also includes coaching and guidance from senior enterprise architects to support continuous learning and growth.
The cloud architecture role is dedicated to fostering innovation and collaborating with both business and IT stakeholders. Serving as a liaison between business and ETS, the architect develops and maintains technology capability roadmaps, reference architecture, best practices, guidelines, and leads application rationalization efforts. This position works in close partnership with application owners, domain architects, and developers to ensure solutions are scalable, maintainable, and effectively support business objectives. By evaluating integration options across IT domains, the architect guides the development of business solutions utilizing advanced technologies. Additionally, the specialist is instrumental in establishing and collaborating on technical standards related to development, integration, and system maintenance.

Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Design and maintain BigQuery schemas (tables, partitioning, clustering) based on business requirements. Maintain metadata and lineage for key datasets and support senior architects with design and review activities.
- Oversee architecture and solution reviews, ensuring compliance with ETS standards. Coordinate with internal teams and partners to address issues and support teams in implementing established architectural strategies. Apply basic governance: dataset/table naming standards, access control, and documentation of datasets.
- Share expertise, ensuring that teams are continuously improving and learning together to meet current and future IT engineering and architecture needs; create robust designs that promote safety, operational excellence, and minimize unplanned outages.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Cyber Security, Network Systems, and peer ETS teams to plan, review design packages, and integrate IT deliverables within projects. Help build and operate ingestion/ETL pipelines that load data into BigQuery from source systems. Write and optimize BigQuery SQL for reports, dashboards, and data products while controlling cost.
- Strong desire and initiative to lead and drive change, and ability to adapt to change quickly and champion new concepts.
- Provide strong leadership by guiding, motivating, and challenging direct reports to achieve high performance; foster professional growth and in-house expertise; and advance enterprise architecture adoption while reinforcing a standards-driven culture.
- Strong project management skills, quick learner, self-starter. This is a leadership position working with a wide range of technical and non-technical audiences. Will be expected to come up with costs and risks and make a holistic recommendation for introducing new technologies.
- Perform other duties as needed. Be available 24/7 for on-call and emergency response when required.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Master’s Degree and a minimum 2 years of relevant full-time work experience, or
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum 3 years of relevant full-time work experience, or
- Associate’s Degree and a minimum 5 years of relevant full-time work experience, or
- High School Diploma/GED and a minimum 7 years of relevant full-time work experience.
Preferred Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Math, Engineering, or business-related disciplines and a minimum 5 years of relevant full-time work experience.
Relevant Work Experience (Required)
- Experience in evaluating various technologies and establishing standard designs.
- Experience in the design and implementation of cyber security measures to protect resources, data, and applications in the cloud or on-prem to ensure that architectures comply with company/industry standards and regulations.
- Ability to collaborate with IT and business stakeholders to align cloud initiatives with organizational objectives.
- Solid expertise in Google MS purview, Dataplex & BigQuery.
- Ability to create in-depth technology reference architectures, technology playbooks, and detailed design diagrams.
- Experience in developing, designing, and implementing detailed scalable data and analytics platforms.
- Experience working with data compliance and supporting internal and external data audits.
- Demonstrate project management skills including the ability to develop plans for and track multiple assignments with changing priorities while meeting deadlines; ability to estimate investment requirements.

Licenses and Certifications
- Driver’s License Required.
- Preferred: Training and/or certification in the data domain (data governance and data architecture) e.g., TOGAF, DAMA CDMP, ICCP, ITIL, CSM, CCSP, CISM, CISA, CISSP, Microsoft Azure Data Certifications, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, etc.
Physical Demands
- Sit or stand to use a keyboard, mouse, and computer for the duration of the workday.
Additional Physical Demands
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be flexible and able to work off-hours as required to support deployments, help resolve production problems, or respond to corporate emergencies.
