Job Description

Job Purpose

The Risk & Compliance Intern will support Liliʻuokalani Trust’s Risk & Compliance Department’s daily activities while gaining hands-on, meaningful experience across key functional areas including compliance, contracts and agreement, and policies and procedures.

As part of Liliʻuokalani Trust’s summer internship cohort, the Risk & Compliance Intern will have opportunities to learn alongside peers from across the organization, build professional skills, deepen cultural understanding, and gain exposure to Liliʻuokalani Trust’s programs, functions, and contributions to the community.

Learning Objectives

By the end of the internship, the Risk & Compliance Intern will have opportunities to:

  • Develop foundational understanding of organizational risk and compliance functions by observing and supporting policy, contract, and safety related activities within Liliʻuokalani Trust.
  • Apply research and analytical skills to real-world scenarios by reviewing industry standards, best practices, and internal documentation to support policy and procedure development.
  • Build professional communication and documentation skills through drafting, reviewing, and organizing policies, procedures, and supporting materials.
  • Gain exposure to decision-making and risk evaluation processes by assisting with cost/benefit analyses and understanding how organizational policies are assessed and implemented.
  • Strengthen cultural awareness and professional identity by learning how Hawaiian values, Queen Liliʻuokalani’s legacy, and Liliʻuokalani Trust’s mission are integrated into daily operations and risk-informed decision-making.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Review and update existing Liliʻuokalani Trust Policies & Procedures on the intranet to ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with current titles, forms, and organizational processes, using established governance standards.
  • Translate formal policy and procedure content into more accessible, user-friendly intranet formats, such as plain-language summaries, FAQs, visual callouts, or “What You Need to Know” sections to improve teammate understanding and usability.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather input on how teammates use policies in practice and identify opportunities to improve navigation, clarity, and engagement on the intranet.
  • Support the development of interactive intranet features (e.g., quick-reference guides, hyperlinks, flow visuals, or decision prompts) that help teammates easily find and apply policy guidance in their daily work.
  • Conduct basic testing and quality checks on updated intranet policy pages to ensure links, formatting, and content function as intended and meet accessibility and usability expectations.
  • Assist in documenting standards or templates for posting and maintaining policies and procedures on the intranet to support long-term consistency and sustainability.
  • Independently manage assigned policy or procedure updates from draft through intranet publication, incorporating feedback, tracking revisions, and coordinating approvals under staff guidance.

Other Duties

Adheres to internship program guidelines and supports department needs as assigned. Completes a variety of tasks that provide broad exposure to departmental workflows. Actively builds new skills, strengthens existing abilities, and applies learning to real‑world projects and responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and pursuing a college degree in related fields
  • Strong research, writing and analytic skill
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office Applications
  • Excellent administrative and organization skills
  • Detailed orientated
  • Strong problem-solving skills

Work Schedule & Location

  • Estimated timeframe: June–August 2026
  • Weekly schedule: 35–40 hours per week

Mental and Physical Demands

Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, crawl, twist, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs and ladders, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 50 lbs. and over, perceive depth, operate motor equipment. Mentally alert, emotionally stable and physically fit in order to cope with emergencies.
