NEW GRADUATE ENGINEER, MECHANICAL (STARLINK) | SpaceX

The Tone:
This is an early career position at SpaceX, located in Bastrop, TX. SpaceX is developing technologies to enable humanity’s future among the stars, with Starlink focused on providing fast, reliable internet to populations with little or no connectivity. This role is crucial for developing and producing the terrestrial hardware that serves millions of users globally, encompassing consumer dishes, Wi-Fi routers, and advanced ground stations. As a New Graduate Engineer, you will contribute to building and refining the physical products and manufacturing processes that deliver Starlink’s mission.

The TL;DR
• Role: Early Career
• Location: Bastrop, TX (In-person)
• Team: Mechanical Teams (including Product Design, Gateway Design, Process, Manufacturing, Reliability, Controls, and Facilities)
• Mission: Own Starlink hardware from conceptual design through high-volume production and global deployment, ensuring reliable internet access.
• Tech Stack: CAD, FEA, X-ray, cross-section, polishing, motion systems, dispense systems, temperature controllers, laser distance sensors, injection molders, die casters

What You’ll Actually Do
• Hardware Ownership: Own Starlink hardware from initial conceptual design through high-volume production and public launch.
• System Optimization: Develop design criteria, collaborate on requirements, and drive system-level optimization for various Starlink products.
• Production Line Development: Design and develop the production lines that manufacture products, including robot end effector design, process development, control system design, and automation programming.
• Process Refinement: Refine the production system to create high-rate, high-yield, and reliable processes for manufacturing Starlink hardware.
• Optimization & Improvement: Identify trends and opportunities for optimizing product output, quality enhancements, and cost of manufacturability.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline. Early Career.
• Experience: 1+ years of experience in mechanical or electromechanical design, analysis, testing, or manufacturing, including internships or extracurricular activities. Graduating in Fall 2025, Spring 2026, or Summer 2026.
• Skills: Solid understanding and application of GD&T, mechanical engineering fundamentals, structural analysis, and failure modes of complex mechanical systems. Experience with CAD and/or FEA software packages.
• Bonus: Experience with Six Sigma and basic failure analysis tools and methods such as X-ray, cross-section, or polishing. Familiarity with various manufacturing processes and designing for manufacturability (DFM). Exposure to production machinery, industrial sensors, and equipment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with changing needs and requirements.
