The Field Engineer Intern plays a pivotal role in implementing IT installations, services, and changes across Copart’s HQ, various offices, and expansive yards. This encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including:
- Providing essential office support.
- Facilitating operational growth initiatives.
- Managing yard moves and remodels.
- Handling equipment decommissioning.
- Offering general IT support.
Some travel may be required for this position.
Duties
- Provide remote assistance for the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of network, desktop, and voice equipment.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data circuits, escalating issues to vendors as necessary.
- Track and resolve tickets efficiently within the Helpdesk system.
- Document and manage IT equipment inventory meticulously.
- Install and support various IT devices, including PCs, servers, VoIP systems, mobility devices, and underlying infrastructure.
- Assist in critical IT projects, which includes research, configuration, and deployment tasks.
- Coordinate IT moves, adds, and changes across different yards and offices to ensure seamless operations.
- Update project documentation accurately in Copart’s SharePoint platform.
- Determine and design infrastructure wiring solutions based on floor plans.
- Collaborate with vendors to obtain quotes and manage IT purchases effectively.
- Verify IT equipment arrivals and conduct thorough inventory checks.
- Conduct site surveys and report any discrepancies observed.
- Ensure the operational status of telecommunications circuits and phone lines.
- Expedite Telecom issues and provide assistance with IT installations.
- Conduct comprehensive connectivity tests for all IT equipment.
- Resolve IT issues promptly on the opening day of new sites to ensure smooth launch.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support IT operations.
Required Skills
- Basic knowledge of telecommunications, LAN cabling, and data circuits.
- Self-motivated with the ability to exercise good judgment under pressure.
- Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills.
- Experience with physical network and PC equipment installations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to lift 20 lbs. repeatedly.
- Understanding of cabling infrastructure and relevant standards.
Preferred Skills
- Strong project management abilities.
- Knowledge of data networking and telecommunications.
