Engineering Intern | James Hardie

This role is crucial for reducing manufacturing costs and improving efficiency through scrap reduction and optimization projects. As an intern, you will contribute directly to real-world challenges that impact the company’s business operations.

• Mission: Reduce the cost of manufacturing through scrap reductions via board length optimization and other manufacturing projects.
• Tech Stack: Excel, Minitab (or similar statistical tools)
What You’ll Actually Do
• Optimize board length generation to minimize waste and reduce manufacturing costs.
• Implement strategies to increase the regrind percentage in CX100 material to 40%.
• Support critical engineering initiatives such as alternate lubrication trials and new screw design implementations.
• Assist with the integration and implementation of CX100 Powder into production processes.
• Conduct thorough research and analysis, preparing reports, presentations, and necessary documentation to support project objectives.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be enrolled in a bachelor’s program in a relevant discipline at an accredited university, with an anticipated graduation date between December 2026 and May 2028 (rising junior or senior).
• Experience: Must be available to work full-time for 12 weeks during the summer of 2026, with a demonstrated strong academic performance (minimum GPA of 3.0).
• Skills: Strong analytical skills for interpreting data, a keen aptitude for problem-solving, clear written and verbal communication, ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams, and meticulous attention to detail.
• Bonus: Target majors include Plastics, Chemical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering; basic proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, charts); and exposure to statistical tools like Minitab.
