Utility Locator (Field Technician) – Entry Level

Starting Pay: $20.00/hour

Stake Center Locating is hiring entry-level Locate Technicians to play a crucial role in promoting damage prevention within your community. This position involves locating underground utilities, troubleshooting, and marking their positions on the ground using paint and flags. We offer comprehensive 100% paid on-the-job training to equip you with the basic skills needed for success. Ideal candidates will enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions, possess a desire for independent work, and demonstrate strong problem-solving abilities with speed and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities (Post-Training)

As a Locate Technician, you will be trained to:

  • Prioritize and practice safety in all operations.
  • Utilize a laptop computer for receiving, documenting, and processing locate tickets and managing email correspondence.
  • Interpret maps and blueprints to determine the most effective method and sequence for locating utilities.
  • Operate provided locate equipment and technology to accurately identify and mark underground utilities.
  • Maintain effective communication with peers, managers, and homeowners.

Qualifications

To be considered for this entry-level position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Capable of walking up to 5 miles a day, 2-3 times a week.
  • Ability to carry up to 5 lbs of electronic locating equipment for extended periods.
  • Capable of lifting objects up to 25 lbs independently, or in excess of 75 lbs with tool aids.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background and drug screening.

Schedule

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include some evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays, based on ticket/production load.
  • Participation in scheduled on-call shift rotations to respond to emergency calls.
