The Tone:
This is an internship at Figure, located in San Jose, CA. Figure is an innovative AI robotics company dedicated to developing and shipping autonomous general-purpose humanoid robots. The company’s ambitious goal is to achieve human-level intelligence in its robots, engineering them to perform a wide variety of tasks across both home and commercial markets. This Test Automation Intern role is pivotal for the Summer 2026 term, as it involves implementing and rigorously testing key aspects of the humanoid’s intricate software and compute platform, directly contributing to the advancement of intelligent robotic systems.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Test Plan Implementation: Implement comprehensive test plans specifically for the humanoid’s software and firmware running on the compute platform.
• Script Development: Develop Python scripts essential for managing data, automating testing processes, and calibrating the robot.
• CI/CD Contribution: Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the company’s Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) infrastructure.
• Hardware/Software Support: Provide direct support for critical hardware and software integration efforts within the lab environment.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Early Career professional currently pursuing or having recently completed an undergraduate or graduate degree, specifically in Computer Science or a closely related engineering field.
• Experience: Demonstrated, hands-on experience actively participating in or leading hardware/software projects that extend beyond typical academic coursework. Candidates must be available for a minimum 10-week internship period, with a preference for those able to commit for 1–2 terms.
• Skills: Fluent proficiency in core programming languages like C++ and Python is essential. A robust and strong understanding of Linux operating systems is also a key requirement. Candidates should possess knowledge of computer architecture, including various communication buses and protocols such as Ethernet, EtherCAT, Serial, CAN, and USB. Furthermore, comfort and practical experience using essential lab instruments like oscilloscopes and logic analyzers, along with debugging tools such as Lauterbach, are expected.
• Bonus: Prior experience utilizing the Bazel build system is a valuable asset. Familiarity with and practical experience deploying and managing Docker containers is also considered a plus.
