The Tone:
This is an internship at Michigan Medicine, located in Ann Arbor, MI, specifically within the Children’s Emergency Services at CS Mott Children’s Hospital. This role is designed to prepare new Graduate Nurses for an RN position within Children’s Emergency Services, focusing on delivering expert family-centered care to children in emergent or urgent situations within a verified Level One pediatric trauma center recognized for nursing excellence.

• Mission: This role prepares Graduate Nurses to deliver expert family-centered care to pediatric emergency patients within a Level One pediatric trauma center.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Care: Provide safe and efficient nursing care to children of all ages and pediatric specialties experiencing emergent or urgent situations.
• Evaluate: Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the care of the pediatric emergency patient in collaboration with the healthcare team.
• Perform: Demonstrate competence in the implementation of technical skills required for pediatric emergency patient care, adhering to UMHS policies and standards.
• Decide: Exhibit critical thinking skills, evidenced by rapid decision-making processes in emergency situations.
• Lead: Assume leadership responsibilities in teamwork and pediatric patient care delivery while actively participating in quality improvement projects.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Successful completion of an accredited BSN program.
• Experience: Must be a Graduate Nurse or newly licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan who has not yet practiced as an RN. Successful completion of the NCLEX is required no later than 45 days from the start date. Must be available to start the internship on July 9, 2026. ACLS and PALS certification must be obtained during orientation, with ENPC and TNCC certification required within 6 months post-orientation.
• Skills: Safe and efficient nursing care delivery, comprehensive assessment and planning for pediatric patients, critical thinking for rapid decision-making, technical skill implementation for emergency care, adherence to documentation practices, and a commitment to identifying one’s own learning needs.
• Bonus: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, experience as an Emergency Department, ICU Tech, or Paramedic, and an overall GPA of 3.5 or higher.
